Manual Handling

Our manual handling solutions go beyond the traditional rhetoric of “bend your knees and keep your back straight”. We set out to identify the real factors contributing to workplace risk and musculoskeletal disease. Our health professionals, all of which have extensive knowledge in occupational health, draw upon their experience to provide meaningful interventions that engage staff, transform behaviours and instill effective injury prevention beliefs.

The manual handling task analysis is the critical first step in ensuring the intervention engages with your people and the content targets the factors that place your organisation at risk of workplace manual handling injuries.

  • Review manual handling tasks through observation and consultation with staff
  • Identification of appropriate training scenarios
  • Capturing photos/videos of the manual handling tasks
  • Analysis of information related to manual handling injury and claim risk

Our manual handling education go beyond the traditional view of how to lift a load. We see the importance of leveraging the worker’s accrued manual handling knowledge to provide engaging and relevant content. Our focus is to enhance positive beliefs and understanding around sound manual handling and injury prevention practices. Key elements to our training include:

  • Nature of workplace injuries specific to your industry and workplace
  • Task-specific safe manual handling principles
  • Applying a risk assessment approach to address manual handling hazards
  • Develop appropriate injury prevention strategies
  • Scenarios and case studies to apply theory into practice

When reviewing manual handling demands you may find that certain tasks have a considerable potential to cause musculoskeletal disorders and workers compensation claims. In this situation a Manual Handling Risk Assessment provides a more thorough review required to control or ameliorate the risk. This service is undertaken by an appropriately qualified health professional with a strong background in workplace injury prevention and management. The key components of this service include:

  • Objective review of the biomechanical demands inherent to the task/s in question
  • Application of Risk Assessment Tool to evaluate risk
  • Identification of strategies to reduce and control risks
  • Assistance with the implementation of the identified solutions

  • All staff who attended were very impressed and thought the training was great and that it was conducted extremely well.

Ergonomics

The way in which we work has undergone significant change over the last decade. Whether it be through Activity-Based-Working (ABW) or hot-desking in the office to remote workplaces whereby our homes and cars have become hybrid workstations. Our ergonomic advisory services assist businesses with these challenges in the pursuit of harmonious, safe and productive environments.

The Brief Ergo is the perfect solution for organisations looking to enhance the ergonomic safety of their workplace. This solution is comprised of brief individual assessments whereby corrections are made and education is provided. More specifically this service provides your staff with:

  • Assistance with individual workstation set-up, adjustment of furniture and equipment.
  • Education on posture and correct ergonomic behaviours
  • Provision of injury prevention strategies
  • Assessor answering any questions around ergonomics
  • A summary report including recommendations and any equipment needs (if required)

A comprehensive ergonomic assessment is ideal for people who are reporting pain or injury. This assessment thoroughly reviews the person’s presentation to ensure the set-up is conducive to recovery and productivity. Key elements of this assessment include:

  • Review of injury or pain history, psychosocial factors and management strategies
  • Assessment of the environment and adjustment of workstation furniture or equipment
  • Education on injury prevention and management strategies through a CBT approach
  • Provision of a tailored stretch routine (if appropriate)
  • Detailed report summarising the findings and providing practical recommendations
  • A brief work, health and safety walk-through (home assessment only)

Delivering a tailored ergonomic workshop enhances engagement and provides better learning and competency outcomes from the session.

A tailored workshop is recommended when;

  • A significant workspace environmental change (i.e. new location, new fit-out)
  • Unrest around specific elements of the workspace (i.e. hot-desking, new chairs)
  • New equipment or technology introduced (i.e. sit-to-stand desks, collaboration zones)
  • High prevalence of pain or injury reporting in your workgroup

Our ergonomic workshops vary in duration and content to match your needs. Fundamental components of our workshops are;

  • Your workstation; setting up correctly
  • Your body; positioning and moving correctly
  • Ergonomic behaviours and the risk of prolonged sitting
  • Injury prevention strategies
  • Access to stretches and exercises at your workstation through our mobile app
  • Ergonomic workstation set-up handout

Other components such as managing sit-to-stand workstations, driver or home ergonomics can be included

Designed by health professionals with a deep understanding of Ergonomics within Australian businesses, ErgoChek is a digital solution that makes office-based ergonomic risk control accessible to organisations in a convenient, affordable and easy-to-understand format
